Department of Commerce
The Research and PG Department of Commerce is one of the pioneering departments of St. Dominic’s College, Kanjirapally. The department came into existence in the year 1977 offering pre-degree Commerce group. In the year 1980 B.Com degree programme was started with a sanctioned strength of 55 students. The Department became a Post Graduate Department in the year 1985.The department was recognized as a research centre in Commerce by the M.G University on 19 th June, 1997, raising it to the status of the only approved Research Centre in Commerce, under the university among its affiliated colleges at that time. Having led by eminent and great visionaries and supported by dedicated and hardworking faculty members, the department has always maintained the status of the ‘dream destination for Commerce aspirants’. Excellent academic track record with university ranks and 100% pass for UG and PG programmes, varied curricular and co curricular activities focusing on the all round development of the students, admirable job placements, add on courses for employability enhancement, training for competitive examinations, industrial linkages etc. make the department one among the best performing Commerce Departments under M.G University.
As an approved research centre under the MG University, the department has always given ample importance to its research activities. Twenty PhDs have been produced by the Centre so far and currently four scholars are doing research under the supervisors, Dr Sunnykutty Thomas and Dr M D Baby. The faculties of the department have completed three major and ten minor research projects funded by the UGC and the CDS. Two of the faculty members are currently pursuing Ph.D. The department has organized numerous national seminars including five UGC sponsored ones on varied topics of academic importance. There are commendable research publications by the faculties of the Department in a number of national and international journals of academic repute.
