Library

The St Dominic’s College library was established in 1965 to meet the needs of its users. It is a fully automated state-of- the-art library that has adequate holdings in terms of books, journals, other learning materials and ICT facilities which enable our users to acquire information, knowledge and the skills necessary for learning. It plays a key role in facilitating the academic activities of the institution. The library is spread over 4000 sq. ft and has a seating capacity for 100 users. It provides open access to its documents and any member can browse through the collections which are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification. The library is open on all days except Sundays and public holidays. It operates from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm from Monday to Saturday.

The library is computerized with ‘KOHA’ – Integrated library management software which provides online library catalogue searching facility. It provides an online catalogue to trace the books, which is accessible from the library page in ‘Resources’ Tab of the college website at lib.sdck.in. Users can search for the documents which they require from their desktops or mobile gadgets anywhere from the world. An E-Resource Consortium INFLIBNET is enabled through the N-List Programme which provides e-journals and e-books to the entire academic community. SDC Library has an institutional membership of DELNET Database. Library attendance KIOSK system is used to mark the attendance of students.

Extension Activities

  • LIBRARY CLUB
    The aim of the library club is to promote the reading habit among the students and cultivate in them a love for books. The club also actively supports all reading –related activities organized by the college library. It also organizes various activities which help develop the leadership potential of its members. It includes almost 100 students and Librarian. All the activities of the club are aimed to enrich its members specifically with soft skills and the activies are designed accordingly to make them resourceful and informative citizens of tomorrow. Those who wish to join library club are required to fill the library club membership form and submit it online.

  • WEB MAGAZINE

    It is a creative platform for students to publish their literary Works. Articles (poem, stories, essays, drawings etc) can be mailed to sdclibraryweb@gmail.com. This platform is on blogger.com , and the domain name is sdcwebmagazine.blogspot.com

  • READING WEEK

    The ‘Reading Week’ is being celebrated by conducting quiz competitions, invited lectures and book exhibitions.

  • THE BEST USER AWARD
    It is instituted to motivate the students to make the efficient use of the library system and its services, the Best Library User Award’ . The best user is selected on the basis of the statistical data from KOHA software, statistical data from kiosk attendance system, utilization of other library resources, discipline and the review of the scrutiny committee.

  • ORIENTATION PROGRAMME
    The library conducts an orientation program for the new comers to create awareness about the resources and services of our college library in the beginning of every academic year. This is the basic information literacy program for our students. The main aim of this programme is to enable the library users to become skilled at finding their needed information and thus foster the feelings of confidence and independence in the information retrieval process.

    This form is intended for feedback and comments that you would like to communicate to St.Dominic's library staff. We appreciate your opinion. Please be respectful and productive in your comments. We are interested in improving St.Dominic's College Library and will take your comments and suggestions seriously.

  • SUGGEST A BOOK

    All library members are invited to suggest books for our library. The book suggestions will be considered according to the availability of library funds

Digital Library Services

1. DELNET :

DELNET:Development Library Network is a registered society promoted by the National Informatics Centre, Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India and the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. DELNET offers access to more than a million bibliographic records that are accessible through various union catalogues and databases. The main objectives of DELNET are to promote resource sharing among the member libraries, develop a network of libraries, collect, store and disseminate information. The College library is the member of DELNET and makes use of the inter-library loan and article search facility. – http://www.delnet.in

2. N-LIST :

N-LIST – is a digital library facility of National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content. Our college library has been a participating member of this network. More than 6000 e- journals and more than 31,35,000 e- books are available on this database. World E-Book Library is the world’s largest e-Books collection in which over 30, 00,000 e-Books, e-Documents, e-Journals and audio e-books are available. It is designed to support academic research at all levels, in all subject areas by providing unabridged e-Books. The College Library subscribes this World E-Book Library through the N-LIST – http:// nlist.inflibnet.ac.in.

3. INTER-LIBRARY LOAN (ILL) :

Interlibrary loan is a service whereby a patron of one library can borrow books and other information resources or receive photocopies of documents that are owned by another library. DELNET is offering inter-library loan & Document Delivery Services to its member libraries. The College library is the member of DELNET and makes use of the inter-library loan. ILL requests can be registered online for books.

4. THE NATIONAL DIGITAL LIBRARY :

(NDL):  The National Digital Library is an all digital library that stores information about different types of digital contents including books, articles, videos, audios, thesis and other educational materials relevant for users from varying educational levels and capabilities.  It provides a single window search facility to access digital contents currently existing in India as well as other digital sources under a single umbrella.  At present more than 80 lakh digital resources are available at no cost.  https://ndl.iitkgp.ac.in.
